As an online business, one of the most difficult challenges you face is building rapport with your website visitors. Relationship building is the backbone of any business and if that’s not what you’re trying to do in your online business, then you’re really missing the boat. Unfortunately, some websites never have a chance, even with the best of intentions, because they’re working double time to irritate, isolate, and offend their website visitors. They don’t connect with their visitors and the end result is that they drive their visitors away in droves.
Are you making any of these Top 10 website mistakes?
1. A ridiculous number of flashing, blinking, or spinning banners. I call this “The Las Vegas Effect.” Just think about driving down “The Strip” in Vegas and you’ll know what I mean.
2. A color scheme that is waaaay too bright or the colors don’t work well together. A website color scheme shouldn’t scream at you the entire time you’re on the site.
3. More advertising banners than content. Duuuuhhh!
4. Difficult navigation. There’s nothing more frustrating than not being able to figure out where to go to get what you’re looking for on a website.
5. Popups… enough said.
6. Ads before you get to the content. You know the ones where you have to “click here to skip this advertisement.” I hate those things.
7. Poorly written content that’s full of misspellings and bad grammar. No one will bother reading your content if it’s unreadable.
8. Don’t write in all caps unless you mean to YELL AT YOUR VISITORS. (That goes for email too, by the way.)
9. Websites that are too cutsie or girlie… they are a complete turn-off to me and just seem to be drowning in unprofessionalism to me.
10. Music that plays automatically when you visit the website. I absolutely hate that!!! If it doesn’t give me a heart attack because my speakers were up too loud, then it makes the site take forever to load. If I wanted music, I’d turn on the stereo!
What do you think… Did I leave any really good ones out?
