Thanks for sharing your experience. My mentors are pretty realistic about Google, I think. So, I will probably have to work with them.

However, I have ethical issues with Google and Yahoo, where I really wish I didn't have to deal with either company at all. Google and Yahoo struck deals with the Chinese Government that they would only run Chinese propoganda about the Dalai Lama and Tibet through their search engines. Apparently, if, on the Chinese version of these search engines, you use the search terms, Dalia Lama or Free Tibet, only negative articles, written by the Chinese Government propoganda machine come up.

To me, this is censorship for the sake of financial expediency. It leaves a bad taste in my mouth, and I heartily wish there were viable altenatives to Google and Yahoo.

I am not surprised at Google's dogmatic approach to your challenges. "Let's stick to the letter, not the spirit, of the law." But, I also know that if you stick with your vision and don't quit, you will overcome. All the best to you!
